The municipality of Nerja is found within a larger area called the Axarquia, a region which accounts for almost all of the eastern Costa del Sol and has as its capital the city of Velez-Malaga , a small city but a historic one. Nerja is neighboured to the west by the municipality of Torrox which has both a hill top village and coastal area, to the east by the tiny village of Maro and to the north by the pretty mountain village of Frigiliana. Nerja is fortunate enough to be located in an area of great natural beauty both coastal and mountainous which has led to it being popular with artists, photographers, walkers, divers and kayak enthusiasts. To the east, on the edge of the municipality and from the village of Maro begins a coastal natural park with protected beaches and wildlife where mountain waters flow and cascade straight into the Mediterranean. A Short History We begin way back This early historical signal comes from the Nerja caves and the famous cave paintings that could potentially be the oldest images ever created by man. Indeed, much of the pre bronze-age evidence comes from the caves which were used by roaming hunter gatherers for shelter. Archaeological investigations in the area have found though that approximately 6, years ago the humans of the region began farming and rearing livestock with the caves eventually being abandoned some 3, years later. The Moor’s set about business In the early 8th century new Arab rulers came to power.

This bustling, cosmopolitan metropolis with a population of nearly 3. The main port of Athens , Piraeus , is one of the biggest and most important in the Mediterranean. At first glance, Athens might discourage visitors due to its seemingly unorganised appearance. However, its charm lies beyond that. The historic centre, major sites and dining and entertainment venues are all clustered together, making Athens a great place to walk in.
After the Olympic games of , great efforts have also been made to reorganise the city. The best time to visit Athens is during spring and autumn, as in the summer, high temperatures and increased traffic may prove to be very harsh. If you are resistant to heat, though, a visit in mid-August may be better, when a large percentage of Athenians have left the city for their vacations. On the other hand, winters in Athens may provide a much different experience. One is certain, though: Athens is truly a lively city that will not disappoint you.
Details of its founding, though, are not known; the rich mythology of ancient Greeks, though, fills in the blanks. According to the legend, Cecrops was the founder and first King of Athens. Half man and half serpent, he emerged from the earth and during his reign, he instituted monogamy and the burial of the dead.
With the notable exception of the Scorhill stone circle most of the stone circles were in a poor state of disrepair with most of the stones fallen and worse still the monuments had been robbed as a source of stone for newtake walls and gateposts and some Dartmoor monuments were still prone to being robbed by road builders. The restoration of some of the Dartmoor monuments became controversial but there can be no doubt that these efforts helped to rescue these monuments from further neglect and despoliation.
As well as restorations the D. Merrivale circle was excavated in by Spence Bate.

Fodele, the village Fodele village is well worth seeing. Fodele is built in an area of orange groves and, according to historians, this was the site of the ancient town of Astali, which was the port of ancient Axos. Today, the people of Fodele may have overdone things with too many craft shops selling the same products, and many cheery tavernas squeezed together, but it remains a central destination for visitors to the area, for two main reasons: First, Fodele is very green.
A very pretty park next to the main square of Fodele offers shade and a picnic site. Even in the beginning of summer there is water running through it, reminding us why this area is so lush and verdant. We park our car past the huge platanos tree at the main square and we enter the park.

It means by the time you see the police with the camera, they have already seen you, know what you are doing and how fast you are travelling. The technology has started to be used by Gloucestershire Police on the major roads in the county, including the M4 and M5.

While speed guns have been able to detect how fast drivers are travelling, the new camera produces very clear video footage and still photographs of vehicles and the people inside them.
The pilot project called Operation Indemnis will police the A and A – a major strategic route linking Gloucestershire and Wiltshire – as well as the M4 and M5 motorways. Some drivers will be given advice about their driving while others, who have committed offences, will be prosecuted. We now have a chance to test a new model of collaborative road policing which, if it proves a success, can be put into practice elsewhere.
