The Dales Way, Pennine Way and Ribble Way all run through the Yorkshire Dales, making this the perfect area to explore on foot, by bike or on horseback. The Three Peaks are the best known hills in the Yorkshire Dales, with many people walking up Penyghent, Whernside and Ingleborough to enjoy stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
The Campsite at Wing Hall occupies the fields surrounding the house, providing guests with stunning views and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere – all anchored around the Victorian Manor House, just a mile from the expanse of Rutland Water.
With the facilities in caravans including showers that can actually be used as showers rather than just to hang wet clothes the only downside was the water supply and disposal. However, a system for the drainage is a little different. The problem is water has an annoying habit of only wanting to flow down hill. Before deciding on how I was going to tackle the drainage for our caravan when on sites, I looked what other people were doing. I would have thought cleaning it afterwards would be a bit of a chore as well.
The choice of sink drainage pipe seemed the way to go. The white however is designed only for interior use, but it did offer an advantage. There are two diameters of pipe available and one slides neatly inside another. A few elbows and angles should allow me to easily adapt for most conditions. They say a picture is worth a thousand words….

The CL, facilities and welcome from the friendly owners meant we ended up staying a whole week and did not want to leave. Perfect touring base for northern lakes and Eden valley. Level site with all hardstanding pitches but with the ability to peg awning on the grass if you wish as I did. The best on site CL facilities we have ever seen including hookup and water tap to all pitches, superb toilet block with two heated ‘state of the art’ family sized shower rooms complete with granite sinks etc.
Open aspect around the CL overlooking the owners farmland along with entertaining young cows on all sides. Very handy for the M6 but do not worry about road noise as the motorway is in a deep cutting lined with trees several hundred metres away and background noise is not intrusive in a caravan. If this doesn’t make CL campsite of the year, then something is going wrong.
On arrival a note on door said find a pitch. Very shortly afterwards Julie the site owner came over. We got pitched up and around tea time Julie popped her head around to see if things were ok. We invited her in she sat and had a chat with us for half an hour or so.
