Feb 2, Should you get a heat pump? Our infographic can show you the questions that you should ask if you’re considering installing a heat pump as part of your renovations. Stop and consider these questions if you’re considering installing a heat pump in your home One of the most popular questions that comes up for homeowners considering renovations these days is whether to replace existing heating systems with an energy-efficient heat pump.

Water damage in your home is a serious business. Therefore, the decision to buy a reliable, quality sump pump to prevent a flooding catastrophe in your basement or crawlspace must be .

Shopping for a new swimming pool heat pump Sizing your heat pump to your pool is the first consideration. Pool heat pumps are rated in BTU’s of heater output. The larger this number, the more heat you will get from a pool heat pump. For aboveground pools, or inground pools under 12, gallons, you will look for something in the 50K to 75K size, with K standing for thousands.

For larger pools, our heat pumps max out at K, which should handle a pool of 40K gallons. For really large pools, you can install heat pumps in tandem, connecting 2, 3, 4 or more pool heat pumps together. There are a few bells and whistles that you can consider in the selection of a pool heat pump, some models offer these as standard equipment: Chillers have the ability to cool the pool water, by reversing their process, if the the pool becomes unbearably hot in the summer.

Self-Diagnosis, Self-Defrosting units can operate in outside temps as low as 38 degrees.

All prices discussed in this article do not include HST but do include equipment, labor and electrical hookup of the machine. What Brands Of course, there are numerous brands on the market ranging from extremely cheap to extremely expensive. At Sunshine, we ignore all of the lowest priced equipment. York, Fujitsu, LG, and Mitsubishi. Dual zones, also known as multi zones, are designed to spread the capacity of an outdoor unit throughout different floors or rooms in your home.

Often they will freeze up after the bearings seize or they will draw the wrong amperage and stop working. A condenser fan motor is responsible for pulling air out of a unit pulling it out past the condenser, much like a fan and radiator in a car or truck. During the summer when it is hot it will blow the heat away from the condenser through its fins cooling down the refrigerant that flows inside. When a condenser fan motor goes bad often the HVAC unit will work initially then stop.

For example during the summer when it is hot and a unit is turned on it will at first blow cold air then after a short period it will stop and blow room temperature air. A simple way to tell if a unit has a bad condensing fan motor is to turn the unit on and stand next to the condenser. The fan at some point should kick on and blow out air. The fan does not run constantly only when needed but if twenty minutes or more go by and the fan does not kick on then there is most likely a problem.

When a fan motor is not spinning a small stick can be used to reach the blades and give them a nudge which sometimes will get it running again but will soon stop. If the motor will not spin at all then the bearings are most likely are bad and the motor will need to be replaced. Be careful when working with a fan motor the blades turn at a high RPM and can cause injury. Never put arms, fingers or any body part in the path of the blades.

Also before removing a condensing fan motor be sure the power to the HVAC unit is off.

Montreal May 27th, The wiring calls for one two load cables, L1 and L2 and ground cable not seen in picture, it terminates on a ground terminal inside the control unit. There is no neutral in this type of setup. I have have an earth ground connected on a terminal outside the heat pump, that is connected with a bonding cable that goes around the pool, to the metal grid in the concrete and the the pool ladders, motor and salt system generator and the in line anode, with a steel grounding plate buried 3 feet under ground.

Fired it up, and it works not breakers were tripped and the pool is heating. When turned on, 1st thing I saw on panel is , oh strange I googled it:

Pump Up Your Energy Savings. An efficient heat pump can pay for itself through energy savings. It offers as much as an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions relative to oil. It’s a clean, comfortable and convenient supplemental heat source.

Options for Heating a House With Gas Heat pumps tend to work well in moderate climates, but during the coldest days, they may not be able to keep up with the heating needs of the home without an auxiliary heating source such as electrical resistance coils. Natural gas heating systems are much less expensive to use in colder areas than heat pumps and there are several options to choose from when converting to natural gas.

Installing a Gas Furnace Eliminating the heat pump entirely and installing a forced-air furnace is an option, though it is expensive and will require a large amount of work. First, a licensed contractor removes the heat pump’s compressor, the outside coil, the inside coil and the refrigerant lines. He then installs the furnace in a spare utility room, basement or other suitable space.

The contractor runs gas lines, electrical lines and the venting system for the furnace to the furnace’s location, possibly requiring some renovations to your home in the process. It’s possible to reuse the air ducts from the heat pump for the system, depending on their condition, their location and if they are the correct size for the new furnace, according to the load calculations done by the contractor.

For the summer, you would need to add a separate air conditioning system if you desire cooling.

Reply RLepage November 24, , 9: In some cities in BC, despite pulling a permit for work, this does not guarantee that an inspector will review the work. They usually assume that the work is done by a competent and trained individual and have therefore deem the work compliant.

The two different names refer to the same thing: In normal operation, a heat pump works like an air conditioner: One heat exchanger is located inside the house or apartment, and the other is outside perhaps on the roof. In summer, the heat pump circulates in one direction, causing the refrigerant vapor to be compressed just before travelling through the outdoor heat exchanger, where heat is released; then through the bottleneck value making the refrigerant cold and then through the indoor heat exchanger where the indoor air gets cooled.

In winter, solenoid-actuated valves reverse the circulation pattern, so that the compressed vapor goes immediately to the indoor heat exchanger to release heat into the indoor air, then through the bottleneck valve and the outdoor heat exchanger, where the relatively-colder refrigerant is warmed by the not-quite-so-cold outdoor air. You’re “air conditioning the outdoors”, cooling the air outside in order to warm the house.

When operating in this second “heating” mode, there is a limit to how well it can work when the outside temperature is very cold. For this reason, heat pump systems installed in climates that go below freezing need another way of providing heat, if only for a short time in the morning when your system goes from your lower “while asleep” temperature setting to your higher “while I’m awake” setting.

This process of re-heating the home every morning is called “recovery”. The difference in name “emergency heat” vs. If you live in an area when the temperature hardly ever goes below 30 degrees, even at night during the coldest month of the year, then a heat pump should be able to keep you warm all the time. If it fails to do so, then it is probably actually broken.

Vacuuming your swimming pool is something that should be done on a weekly basis. Sometimes your swimming pool may not look dirty but there is actually lots of bacteria that you can not see growing on the walls and the floor of the swimming pool. The most important thing you have to remember when vacuuming any swimming pool is that have a good prime is the key to have great suction.

Often many pool owners do not spend enough time properly priming the vacuum hose only to experience hours and hours of problems because they just can not get the debris off of the pool floor. This happens because the swimming pool vacuum has a bad prime. There are a few things that you will need in order to vacuum your pool the correct way.

Sadly, labor costs vary quite a bit more than the actual heat pumps. Some homes require excavation or drilling through concrete driveways and walls. Others require pipe installation or a whole new venting system. In addition to the added time, each aspect brings more complexity to the job. Given the large range, we highly recommend you gather at least three quotes for your heat pump replacement project. Heat Pump Replacement Cost Factors While a majority of your heat pump cost will come down to the pump and labor prices, there are a few other factors you have to consider.

Heat pump vs electric heat: pros, cons and costs

Laboratory Performance Evaluation of Residential Integrated Heat Pump Water Heaters Heat-pump water heaters are clearly more efficient than electric resistance water heaters. Possible side benefits include dehumidification of the room where the unit is located, and space cooling a side effect which is beneficial in hot weather but potentially problematic during the winter. Measuring the efficiency of electric water heaters Electric water heaters both electric-resistance water heaters and heat-pump water heaters are rated with an Energy Factor EF that is based on a standardized laboratory test procedure.

The EF rating is the ratio of the energy delivered to the water divided by the energy used by the water heater. An EF test takes 24 hours; the testing standard specifies the volume and spacing of the hot water draws, as well as the temperature of the hot water and the ambient temperature of the room.

Lacrosse, WI I have this setup. Heatpump with add-on Englander furnace with its own blower. My heatpump is setup to run only when the temp is above 35 degrees, below that natural gas kicks in or wood as I make sure the house is warm enough. I will sometimes turn off my natural gas valve so it doesn’t kick in. Once I’m in wood season, then I turn back on in case of emergency.

If I were you I’d put the stove as close to the chimney as possible to minimize elbows and horizontal runs creates better draft especially in a ranch, which is what I have too by the way. You have to make sure that your heat comes in above your A-coil in your furnace if that is how you are going to duct it in. Another option would be to install separate heating ducts from the wood furnace that are dedicated just to the wood furnace, then you don’t have to worry about your existing furnace.

As mentioned already Laynes69 , make sure that if you install into the existing plenum, to have some sort of backflow dampers. What I did was extend my hot air through the plenum so that there is no chance of backblow, that way I can run both blowers at the same time, if needed. I also have the cold air return hooked up to the furnace, that is a big help too in heating more efficiently. May not be an option for you if you are that far away from the furnace.

Heat pump for my 18×36 inground pool. I live in Maryland. Is this an appropriate choice? This unit requires a 50 min or 60 max amp volts breaker. We do not have any storefronts but these units very often ship out of a Florida vendor. Can i leave them open and run my pump when the heater is off? If the flow rate of the pump exceeds the maximum flow rate of the unit and to cut off water to the unit when not in use.

Yes, you can leave the valves open running water through the unit when it’s not in use. Is there a formula to figure recommended BTUs? My current unit, an AquaComfort was not piped in that way. I would recommend installing a manual bypass that way if your flow rate exceeds 75GPM you can regulate it and also shut off the flow to the unit when it’s not being used.

I’m replacing an AquaComfort unit that the nameplate says V. This Heat Pro calls for V.
